Equipment Review

Composting Head:

We were out eleven days using the composting head every day. We found the head to be odorless and efficient.  My assessment is that we will need to fill the box three fourth’s full to start with.  The stirring handle is probably not sufficient to properly cover.  We used a dried palm frond stalk which we stored in a plastic bag to stir the mix completely every day.  A couple of cups of water should be added each day.  Urine should be separated.  We disposed of it overboard using a pan for the lady and a urinal for me.  The urine provides to rich a mix of nitrogen versus carbon.  The venting system with fan efficiently disposed of noxious odors harmlessly out the back of the boat.  Small bags of peat can be stored in a robust larger garbage bag for restocking the head.

We disposed of the mix in a garbage bag on the final day in the marina dumpster.
