Route for the Tortugas Trip

5/6/1008 The saga begins. I am dry camping on my trailer in the parking lot at Port of the Islands Marina just south of Naples. It has been a grueling fourteen hour day. I have been exhausted from long days and short nights for some time now so had to stop and rest on several occasions. That explains the long, long trip. Now it has taken me two hours to stow every thing on the boat and set up the masts and sails.

I just finished listening to the forecast and it calls for southwest winds starting Thursday. How convenient! Never to mind, I will head for Marathon going counterclockwise clockwise on my planned trip if the winds to the southwest are foul.

So everything is ready--I hope. I am off to bed, planning to rise early for the arrangements with the marina for storage and launch. Updates will happen when a cell tower is in range. I dunked my other camera so got a new Cannon A790IS which is great. However, the case is slightly larger so of course the water proof case for diving will not fit. Not to be thwarted, I bought an underwater disposable film camera for a few fish shots. Love my new camera though with its 6:1 optical zoom and 8 megapixal density. Seems very sharp and clear with great color. Next report may be several days from now. For now, wish me luck and fair winds!

I should be in the Tortugas. Everything went so well. What happened. I will update the story tomorrow. I am happy to be alive and safely back at home. Details will follow. Stay tuned!
